BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION:
Recently (in July 2021), the City Council approved the purchase of a new 2500 Chevrolet Truck for the Animal Services Department. This new vehicle replaced a 2005 Dodge 1/2 ton truck with an engine that had over 106,000 miles and numerous incurable mechanical issues. That vehicle purchase was a recommendation from Saginaw Chief Mechanic Mayhue.
The vehicle chassis mount Animal Control Unit is an animal storage compartment that is mounted on the back of the truck that will house up to six (6) animals. It is all stainless steel, has an exhaust fan, LED lights, switching partitions and lockable doors. The quote for this item was not received in time to include with the initial truck purchase (see above paragraph) or it would have been included at that time. The existing Dodge truck chassis mount is smaller and will not fit on this new truck. It was ordered in July 2021 but has not yet been purchased or installed.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The financial impact will be $19,474 (includes installation). Funds to cover this expenditure are available in the General Fund-Fund Balance.
