SUBJECT: Consideration and Action regarding Request to approve funding for a six foot bronze statue to be prominently placed at the main entrance of the new fire station. The statue would be the likeness of one of our own fire department staff members dressed and equipped as he/she would be at the scene of a fire incident.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION: In the earliest stages of planning for the design and construction of the new fire station, staff had the desire to incorporate a firefighter likeness bronze statue on the exterior of the building. We did not include pricing for a statue within the fire station project budget to ensure we were able to commence the project at or under the council approved budget amount. Through diligent planning and project management we have excess capacity within the existing project budget to fund a six foot tall bronze firefighter statue.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: $ 65,697.00 total to incorporate the bronze firefighter statue into the construction of the new fire station. Funds will be from within the existing fire station budget. $30,000 to Davenport Studios as the project artist and $35,697 to Art Foundry Carpino for the metal, molding, cast and patina work. Statue foundation pedestal and lighting were planned for and included in the approved fire station budget with the anticipation, and budget management providing, that we would seek funding approval of the statue at this point in construction of the project. Price quotes form both Davenport Studios and Ar Foundry Carpino are attached.
RECOMMENDATION: Approval of the bronze statue design and funding as presented. A firefighter likeness sketch, and both a ground level and overhead perspective are attached. |
