SUBJECT:
Consideration and Action regarding Authorization of Expenditure for the Gambian Delegation to attend and provide Entertainment at the 2022 Train and Grain Festival; and Authorization for Expenditure for the Gambia Texas Association to attend and provide Entertainment at the 2022 Train and Grain Festival
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION:
As part of the 2022 Train and Grain Festival, our Sister City Banjul's Mayor Rohey Lowe and some of the Banjul City Council will be invited to Saginaw for a one week stay. We intend to have a feature at the Train and Grain Festival that showcases Gambian culture, music, and food. This item was approved in June 2021 but the plans were cancelled due to pandemic travel restrictions.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The estimated financial impact will be $15,000 which will pay for airfare and lodging for the Gambian delegation and entertainment by the Gambia Texas Association. The funds will come from hotel occupancy taxes reserved for the promotion of the arts.
RECOMMENDATION:
