BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION:
To provide an update on the Police K9 program. We have made a selection for our K9 handler and K9 Coordinator, and chosen a vendor from whom to purchase our canine. Our K9 policy has been created and is compliant with the Texas Police Chief's Association Best Practice standards.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
$50,000 has already been approved in the budget for the implementation of the program.
We have chosen Corporal Tony Manning as our Handler.
Sgt Coty Pruit has been chosen as the program coordinator.
Top Dog Police K9 has been chosen as our vendor to provide a canine,
and Safe Fleet (our normal police unit outfitter) has been chosen to supply and install the K9 components in our Police K9 Tahoe.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff Recommends moving forward with selecting a canine and training of the chosen handler.
