SUBJECT:
Consideration and Action regarding Ordinance No. 2022-08, Carport Regulation Amending Ordinance (Public Hearing was held on 8/16/2022)
Adoption of an amending ordinance to permit carports in residential areas of the city where previously prohibited by zoning regulations. Approval of a Specific Use Permit is required for carports in all residential areas with exception to MF1 & MF2. While the ordinance provides basic design and installation standards the ordinance and SUP requirement provides Council the discretion to modify construction design and material requirements on a per SUP application basis.
Remaining with current practice all SUPs will first go to Planning and Zoning for recommendation before being brought before City Council.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION:
Adopted city ordinances are methodically being reviewed to determine relevance and in priority of application occurrence or by Council/staff recommendation. At the recommendation of Council the carport ordinance was deemed a priority. Direction was to revise the current ordinance providing residential properties a process to pursue installation of a carport in which the carport construction design and materials is required to be consistent with the main residential structure.
The proposed ordinance has undergone legal counsel review.
