SUBJECT:
Approval of Tarrant County Emergency Services District #1 (TCESD1) American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) State and Local Recovery Funds agreement amendment providing an additional $150,000 in funding toward authorized firefighting equipment purchases. Authorized equipment being defined as first responder Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and associated equipment. Funding to be provided through reimbursement after purchase.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION:
In June of 2022 City Council approved an agreement with TCESD1 to receive $30,000 of Tarrant County ARPA State and Local Recovery Funds to be used for firefighting equipment (PPE and/or SCBAs). That $30,000 has been allocated toward PPE commonly referenced to as bunker gear - firefighting coat/pant ensembles, helmets, boots, gloves and hoods. An additional $150,000 of ARPA funds has now been made available for the same purposes, PPE and SCBA equipment. The agreement amendment is to approve acceptance of the additional ARPA funds. The expenditure process will follow a grant structure - submittal request to TCESD1 identifying the equipment to be purchased, TCESD1 approval, acquisition of equipment, and request for reimbursement from TCESD1. A list of equipment will be created based on most need and greatest benefit to our department's firefighting capabilities.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:
Acquisition and replacement of firefighting PPE and SCBA equipment in the amount of $150,000 utilizing American Rescue Plan Act State and Local Recovery Funds.
RECOMMENDATION:
Approval of the amendment to the June 6, 2022 ARPA State and Local Recovery Funds agreement providing opportunity to expend an additional $150,000 for firefighting equipment. |
