BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION:
Peace Officers with the State of Texas are required to achieve or exceed firearms proficiency every year with a live fire qualification on a shooting range. Training and practice are essential throughout the year for all officers. Tarrant County College has a excellent range facility which is safe and convenient to our city.
The terms of this agreement are for three (3) calendar years beginning January 1, 2020. Saginaw peace officers will have exclusive use of the firing range, classrooms, and restrooms, for twenty (20) days in each calendar year. This is adequate for the current number of sworn police and fire employees to train and qualify to meet TCOLE requirements.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
Upon execution of the agreement within 30 days the City shall pay $22,500 to TCC to cover the three year period. This amount is budgeted in the FY 19-20 Police Department line item 01-4690-05-00.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends approval.
