Each candidate for the May 2, 2020 Saginaw City Council Election was unopposed.  The Texas Election Code authorizes a governing body to declare each unopposed candidate elected to office and cancel the election.  The City Council took action at their meeting on March 3rd to cancel this election.  The following unopposed candidates were declared elected to office: Charles Tucker, Councilmember Place 4, and Mary Copeland, Councilmember Place 6.   Even though they were declared elected to office in March, per the Texas Election Code, they can't be sworn in to office until after the date that the election would have been held (May 2, 2020).  City Secretary England will administer the oath of office for Councilmember Tucker and Councilmember Copeland.  Both will receive a certificate of election.
