SUBJECT: Consideration and Action regarding Approval of Funds for “Art in the Community Program” Mural
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION:
During the summer months of 2020, the Keep Saginaw Beautiful Volunteer Committee (KSB) met with professional artist Adam Davenport on another professional mural. Adam created the original historic fire station mural on the Northside of NW Plumbing and the Greene’s Grocery mural on JR’s Café. Adam hails from Louisiana & Mississippi, but now resides in the Austin area. He is famous for his versatility in realism and portraiture, so this was right up his alley.
KSB was presented an amazing, yet fragile photo of the original fire station with Saginaw residents/Volunteer Firemen: S.T. McDaniel, Andy “Cotton” Anderson, Fraser Hafley as well as a fire apparatus. This potential mural would be painted on the Southside of the Northwest Plumbing building (home of the original Saginaw Fire Station). KSM met and discussed this idea at their August 17, 2020 meeting and approved this potential project unanimously. This potential project could begin as early as late-September 2020 and would take up to 3 weeks to complete.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: The financial impact is $12,000. Residents, via their monthly water bill, will fund this project from the Keep Saginaw Beautiful voluntary $1.00 donation.
